- New Zealand citizens who enter Australia are generally granted a Subclass 444 visa on arrival
- New Zealand citizens who:
- Were living in Australia on 26 February 2001, or
- Lived in Australia for at least one year in the two years before this date
are considered Eligible New Zealand Citizens
- Eligible New Zealand citizens have similar rights to Australian citizens
Important Note:

When Is the Subclass 461 Visa Suitable?
The Subclass 461 visa is ideal if:
- Your partner or family member is a New Zealand citizen (Subclass 444 holder)
- You do not hold an Australian visa, or your current visa is expiring soon
- You wish to remain in Australia together without applying for a partner visa
This visa is granted for five years and can be renewed while in Australia.
